CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The State Government has constituted a six-member interdepartmental committee to upgrade the technical skills of registered construction workers engaged in works under the Public Works Department and to provide them with necessary skill-based training.
The committee includes Managing Director, Madhya Pradesh Building Development Corporation, Sibi Chakravarty; Director, Skill Development Directorate, Basant Kurre, member secretary; BOCW, Rani Batad, member co-coordinator; Chief Engineer (NH), Public Works Department, B.P. Baurasi, member; Chief Engineer (Building), Public Works Department, Surendra Rao Gorkhede, member; and Chief Engineer, Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation, B.S. Meena, member. The committee will ensure the registration of workers engaged in construction works with the concerned social security board and assess their current skill levels. A separate registration process will be undertaken for workers’ training, and a skill-related database will also be prepared.
The committee will identify the skills required for various construction activities and trades and prepare suitable training courses and modules. Phased skill development and training programmes will be conducted for registered construction workers, along with Recognition of Prior Learning programmes. The quality and effectiveness of training will be monitored regularly.
Through training, the committee will also give necessary suggestions to improve workers’ efficiency in construction works, ensure compliance with technical standards, and enhance work quality and safety practices. The committee will inform the competent authority about the progress of works and its recommendations as required. The initiative will be reviewed jointly by the secretaries in charge of the Public Works Department, Technical Education, Skill Development and Employment Department, and Labour Department. The order issued in this regard has come into force with immediate effect.
