CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. A controversy has arisen over some songs of Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh ahead of his Delhi concert. Taking cognisance of a complaint, the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has issued a notice to the Delhi Police Commissioner. The commission has sent a copy of the complaint to police and directed them to investigate the matter and take appropriate action as per rules.

The matter is linked to Diljit’s live concert proposed for October 30 at Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium in Delhi. Chandigarh professor Dr. Panditrao Dharenavar filed a complaint with the commission on October 14. He alleged that some of the singer’s songs glorify alcohol, narcotic substances and weapons. The complainant said such songs could adversely affect the behaviour and mental development of children and adolescents.

The professor had asked the commission to stop the performance of such songs during the concert. He also requested that necessary guidelines or an advisory be issued in this regard.

The complaint was considered by a bench comprising commission chairperson Dr. Om Prakash Vyas and members Rahul Gautam and Swati Gupta. The commission then referred the matter to Delhi Police and asked for action in accordance with the law. Citing its jurisdiction, the commission said protecting children’s rights and interests is its statutory responsibility.

For now, the commission has asked police to act on the complaint. No final conclusion has been reached on the allegations made in the complaint. The matter has intensified debate over the content of songs performed at major music events and their possible impact on children.
