“CNN Central News and Network – ITDC India ePress / ITDC News Bhopal:” The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] is set to hold a large-scale rally and protest march to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office in Salt Lake, Kolkata, on Thursday. The demonstration aims to demand a prompt and thorough investigation into the heinous rape and murder of a female doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The rally, organized by CPI(M), will commence in the afternoon from Hudco Crossing at Ultadanga and conclude at the Central Government Office (CGO) in Salt Lake, which houses the CBI’s Special Crime Unit responsible for the ongoing investigation.

In addition to the party’s top leadership in West Bengal, representatives from various mass organizations affiliated with CPI(M) will participate in the protest. The march will carry the powerful slogan, “Aro koto Somoy Chai, Jabab Dao CBI” (“CBI, please answer how much more time you need”). This chant reflects the party’s frustration over the slow progress of the investigation and its demand for accountability.

A state committee member of CPI(M) criticized the CBI’s initial charge sheet, which names only civic volunteer Sanjay Roy as the “sole prime accused” in the case. “There is a bigger conspiracy behind this ghastly crime, and our only demand is that the CBI should reveal the truth at the earliest,” the committee member stated. He emphasized that limiting the accusations to Roy does not align with the gravity of the crime and suggests a broader cover-up.

The West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front (WBJDF), the umbrella organization leading the movement against the rape and murder, has also voiced its concern over the CBI’s charge sheet. They express deep distress over the identification of only one accused, questioning the integrity and thoroughness of the investigation.

A CPI(M) politburo member and the party’s state secretary in West Bengal highlighted historical apprehensions regarding the CBI’s investigations in the state. Drawing parallels with previous corruption cases, he expressed skepticism about the current probe’s ability to uncover the complete truth. “Based on past experiences, we fear that the investigation in the RG Kar case might follow a similar pattern of inefficiency and partiality,” he remarked.

In response to these concerns, CPI(M) has decided to mobilize its supporters for the protest march, underscoring the party’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and her family. The party demands that the CBI expedite the investigation process and provide a logical and transparent conclusion to the case.

Security arrangements for the rally have been meticulously planned, with local authorities coordinating to manage the large turnout expected. The CPI(M) leadership has called on all party members and sympathizers to join the march, emphasizing the importance of solidarity in the fight for justice.

As the protest unfolds, it is anticipated to draw significant attention to the shortcomings of the current investigation and pressurize the CBI to take more decisive actions in resolving the case. The CPI(M) remains steadfast in its pursuit of truth and justice, advocating for a comprehensive probe that addresses all aspects of the brutal crime.
