CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The controversy within the Pakistan cricket team on the England tour appears to be deepening. One of the seven cricketers dropped from the Test team refused to meet King Charles III despite instructions from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The incident has come to light at a time when major changes have been made in Pakistan cricket after successive defeats against England.

According to reports, the players dropped from the Test team were asked to attend a meeting with King Charles at Clarence House in London on September 2. The PCB wanted a sufficient number of players to be present at the team’s official meeting. Four players attended the meeting, while one player reportedly refused outright. King Charles III hosted the Pakistan cricket team. Captain Babar Azam also presented him with a signed cricket bat.

The entire development is being linked to the discontent within the Pakistan team. After defeats in the first two Tests against England, the PCB made major changes to the Test squad and dropped seven players. Changes were also made to the team’s coaching staff. Former Pakistan captains and cricket experts have questioned these decisions. Reports also said that some players came to know about being dropped through social media rather than directly from the management. This also raised questions about communication between the players and the board.

The name of the player who refused to meet King Charles has not been clearly mentioned in some reports. However, according to available reports, he refused to attend the programme despite the PCB’s order, and this is being seen as a protest against the board. Four other dropped players attended the event.

The Pakistan team’s performance on the England tour has been poor. After losing the first two Tests, the PCB made sweeping changes to the team. The earlier coaching staff was also reshuffled, and young players were given opportunities before the third Test. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has described these changes as necessary for the team’s future.

In this atmosphere, a player’s refusal to meet King Charles has brought the internal tussle in Pakistan cricket into sharper focus. However, the official reason for the player’s refusal has not been made publicly clear.
