A comment made by Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, the Peethadhishwar of Bageshwar Dham, about Lord Shri Krishna has now reached a legal dispute. In the matter, a criminal defamation complaint has been filed against him in an Agra court. Complainant advocate Ajay Pratap Singh has alleged that Shastri’s remark hurt the religious sentiments of people who have faith in Lord Shri Krishna, especially his descendants, and damaged their social reputation.
The matter relates to a statement made during a Ram Katha held on October 29 at Karera in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh. According to the complaint, Dhirendra Shastri, while comparing the physical postures of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna, said Lord Shri Krishna stands bent at three places. Referring to the posture of his feet, waist and neck, he described Lord Ram as one who stands straight. The controversy began after a video of the statement went viral on social media.
Advocate Ajay Pratap Singh, while filing the complaint in the Agra civil court, claimed that descendants of Lord Shri Krishna are still present in the country. Referring to communities such as Jadon, Jadeja and Bhati, he also described himself as a descendant of Shri Krishna from his maternal side. He said the remark had harmed his religious sentiments and social honour.
The preliminary hearing in the case was held in the court of Civil Judge Kanchan Kumari. The court registered the complaint and fixed December 14 for the next hearing.
After the controversy grew, Dhirendra Shastri issued a clarification, saying his intention was not to create any distinction between Lord Ram and Shri Krishna. He said his statement had been misinterpreted and also apologised if sentiments had been hurt. For now, the complaint has been registered in court, and no final judicial decision has been delivered on the allegations.
