CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A one-day workshop titled “Wooden Toys: Innovation & Technique” was organized by the Interior Department of the Centre for Research and Industrial Staff Performance (CRISP). The workshop was conducted from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and saw enthusiastic participation from over 26 attendees.
The session was led by Vinod Kumar Sharma, an expert in Budhni Woodcraft and recipient of the ‘One District One Product’ award. He introduced participants to various traditional techniques of wooden toy making. He explained that ‘Doodhi wood’ is the most suitable for making toys, as it is not only lightweight and durable but also eco-friendly.
Mr. Sharma demonstrated key techniques such as traditional wood coloring, various cutting methods, use of the lathe machine, and lacquer polishing on wood surfaces. Participants had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, allowing them to understand traditional craft through a modern lens.
The workshop was coordinated by Ms. Padma Ayyar from the Interior Department, who effectively managed the event layout, logistics, and participant engagement.
At the conclusion of the workshop, all participants and the organizing team took a group photo to commemorate the creative experience.
On the success of the event, Dr. Shrikant Patil, MD of CRISP, stated, “This initiative by CRISP is a significant step towards preserving traditional crafts and also empowering local artisans and design students to become self-reliant.”
