CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Portuguese football great Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence over the controversy surrounding his sudden exit from the national team’s training camp. Ronaldo accused coach Jorge Jesus of failing to keep his promise. He said he had been assured that he would play for 30 minutes in the match against Norway, but he was not sent onto the field. The disagreement between the two grew after that.
According to Ronaldo, the coach had spoken to him before the match about playing and had said he would be brought on for around 30 minutes. He kept warming up from the start of the second half, but did not get a chance to play. Ronaldo said the situation was not clarified in the press conference as per the understanding reached with the coach, which left him deeply disappointed. However, Jorge Jesus has denied any such agreement.
Ronaldo admitted that his decision to leave the training camp was wrong and apologised to the team, fans and Portuguese football. He said the Portuguese Football Federation should impose an appropriate punishment for his conduct and that he would accept any disciplinary action. Significantly, Ronaldo has not announced his retirement from international football. He said that if he remains fit and performs well at club level, he is ready to play for Portugal again after serving his punishment.
