CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress / ITDC News Bhopal / CG / Raipur : The Department of Agriculture Development, Farmers Welfare, and Biotechnology has announced the crop insurance period for Kharif crops in 2025. Farmers can now insure their crops between July 15 and July 31 at a nominal premium rate of just 2%.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), farmers across the district can now insure primary crops such as irrigated and non-irrigated paddy, as well as maize, groundnut, moong (green gram), urad (black gram), soybean, arhar (pigeon pea), kodo millet, kutki, and ragi.
This scheme offers relief from potential losses due to adverse weather, drought, floods, waterlogging, hailstorms, and other natural calamities. Both loanee and non-loanee farmers, including landowners and sharecroppers, are eligible for enrollment. Farmers growing notified crops in notified villages or inspector circles and who have availed seasonal agricultural loans from financial institutions are eligible. Additionally, non-loanee farmers interested in the scheme must obtain a sowing certificate verified by the local patwari or rural agriculture extension officer and submit required documents.
The sum insured per hectare and the farmer’s payable premium per hectare under PMFBY for Kharif 2025-26 has been specified as follows:
Urad: ₹30,000 insured, ₹600 premium
Moong: ₹29,000 insured, ₹580 premium
