CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India Epress / ITDC News / Agencies, Bhopal: Two important developments related to science and defence are in focus in the current affairs of November 4. The first concerns a 4.1-billion-year-old Martian meteorite found in the Sahara Desert, while the second relates to the joint military exercise ‘Tiger Triumph 2026’ that has begun between India and the United States. Both developments are significant for space science and bilateral defence cooperation.

A 4.1-billion-year-old Martian meteorite found in the Sahara: A pink-coloured stone found in Mali’s Sahara Desert in 2022 has turned out to be a Martian meteorite. The stone, named ‘Teghaza 001’, weighs about 800 grams and has been estimated to be more than 4.1 billion years old. According to scientists, it is among the oldest Martian meteorites found on Earth. Studies of its minerals and chemical composition indicate that ancient Martian rocks had come into contact with liquid water. The discovery may help in understanding the conditions on Mars during the period when water was present there. However, it does not confirm the existence of life on Mars.

India-US Tiger Triumph 2026 exercise begins: The fifth edition of the bilateral tri-service humanitarian assistance and disaster relief exercise ‘Tiger Triumph 2026’ between India and the United States began on November 2 in Visakhapatnam. The opening ceremony was held at the Maritime Warfare Centre. This year, the exercise is being conducted as a tabletop exercise, with a focus on joint planning, coordination and conduct of major disaster relief operations. Representatives of the Indian Navy, Army and Air Force, along with special forces personnel, are taking part. For the first time in this edition, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also joined. From the US side, personnel from all three services, along with experts in space, cyber, medical and bomb disposal domains, are participating.
