CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress / ITDC News Bhopal: Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been fined Rs 12 lakh for breaching code of conduct during his team’s first win of IPL 2024 as they beat defending champions Chennai Super Kings in Vizag on Sunday night.

Pant, playing in his first IPL season since 2022, will have to cough up the fine after his team was found to have maintained a slow over rate against CSK at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.

“As it was his (Pant’s) team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pant was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” read a statement from IPL.

The penalty will matter little to Pant who played a starring role in DC’s first win of the ongoing season. The DC skipper scored a solid half-century to help his team to a challenging total of 191/5 against CSK.

DC shuffled their batting order after starting their campaign with back-to-back defeats. Prithvi Shaw was given a game and he opened alongside David Warner with the pair leading an excellent start by adding 93 runs.

Warner scored a quick fifty – 51 off 35 – and his exit was followed by the entry of Pant at no. 3. However, Shaw soon departed on 43 followed by DC losing two more wickets in quick succession that dented their charge.

Pant went on to hit a 32-ball 51, an innings comprising four fours and three sixes and was dismissed in the penultimate over of the DC innings.

DC bowlers then put up a superb defense of the total, reducing CSK to 7/2 in 2.5 overs before the middle-order began the damage repair. Regular strikes though meant the title holders were left a lot to chase in the final few overs.

The only solace from the night for the CSK fans was witnessing MS Dhoni’s pyrotechnics as he turned the clock back in an entertaining unbeaten innings of 37 off 16 that included four fours and three sixes.
