CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan has got relief for now in the case linked to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Waqf Board. The special court at Rouse Avenue has deferred the date for pronouncing its decision against him and 10 other accused. The court will now pronounce its decision on November 28.
Special Judge Digvinay Singh said on Tuesday that the verdict in the case was not yet ready. For this reason, the process of pronouncing the decision was postponed. Final arguments from both sides in the case had been completed on October 17, after which the court had reserved its verdict.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has named a total of 13 people as accused in the case, including Amanatullah Khan and former Delhi Waqf Board chief executive officer (CEO) Mehboob Alam. However, the current proceedings for pronouncement of the decision in court were stated to relate to 11 accused.
The CBI has alleged that while serving as chairman of the Waqf Board, Amanatullah Khan misused his position and violated rules to get appointments made for people close to him and his relatives. There are also allegations of irregularities in leasing out board properties.
According to the investigating agency, rules were not followed in decisions related to appointments and management of properties. On the basis of these allegations, the CBI had registered a case, conducted an investigation and filed a chargesheet.
For now, the court has not declared the accused guilty or innocent. The verdict will be announced at the hearing on November 28.
