CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New York: Several countries’ representatives walked out of the hall during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The walkout took place just before Netanyahu began speaking and during the opening part of his address. According to reports, the Palestinian mission had appealed to representatives of member states to leave collectively.
After the delegates walked out, many seats were seen empty in the hall. Some representatives also protested and raised slogans during the address. Netanyahu called the delegates who walked out “moral cowards” and said that if any other representatives felt the same, they could leave the hall. In his address, Netanyahu rejected allegations of genocide over Israel’s military action in Gaza. He also defended Israel’s action against Iran’s nuclear programme and said Israel was acting for its own security as well as for the security of several other countries.
In his speech, Netanyahu criticised several countries, including Qatar and Turkey. He also defended his government’s position amid international criticism of Israel. On the other hand, several countries at the United Nations General Assembly this week had registered objections over the Gaza conflict and Israel’s policies. The collective walkout highlighted the continuing international divisions at the UN General Assembly over the Gaza war and Israel’s policies.
