CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: New Delhi. Air quality in the national capital Delhi has recorded a slight improvement. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 187 at 8 am on Monday, October 26, which falls in the “moderate” category. However, pollution levels remain a cause for concern in several parts of the city.
Delhi government Environment, Forest and Wildlife Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa praised the efforts of Delhi’s residents, municipal corporation employees and traffic police for the improvement in air quality. He said public participation has been important in bringing pollution under control. Sirsa also thanked the police of neighbouring states and surrounding districts. According to him, efforts have been made over the past few days to stop polluting vehicles from entering Delhi.
Pollution remains high in several areas. According to data from CPCB monitoring stations, the AQI was recorded at 128 in Burari, 125 in Badarpur, 150 in Nangloi and 165 at Mandir Marg. On the other hand, it stood at 251 in Jahangirpuri, 240 in Vivek Vihar, 233 in RK Puram and 229 in Punjabi Bagh. These figures show that the pollution situation in the capital is not the same across all areas.
GRAP-1 measures have been implemented. After air quality in Delhi-NCR reached the poor category, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) implemented the first-stage measures of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). These include steps such as a ban on the use of coal and firewood in tandoors at hotels, restaurants and open eateries, and restrictions on the operation of diesel generators except for essential and emergency needs.
Despite the improvement in air quality, experts and concerned agencies continue to face the challenge of keeping pollution under control. Citizens are also being appealed to cooperate in efforts to reduce pollution.
