CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Delhi’s air quality has deteriorated sharply, reaching the ‘severe’ category with the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossing 420 in several areas. The resurgence of GRAP Stage 4 (Graded Response Action Plan) measures indicates the alarming pollution levels. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), prominent areas like Anand Vihar, Jahangirpuri, and Rohini recorded AQIs exceeding 450, pushing them into hazardous zones.

The GRAP Stage 4 restrictions include a ban on construction activities, industrial emissions control, and stricter vehicular regulations to reduce pollutant emissions. Authorities have advised citizens, especially the elderly and children, to avoid outdoor activities and limit exposure to the toxic air. Health experts warn that prolonged exposure to such high AQI levels could cause severe respiratory illnesses, including bronchitis and asthma flare-ups.

The primary contributors to this pollution surge include stubble burning in neighboring states, vehicular emissions, and unfavorable weather conditions trapping pollutants in the air. Despite initiatives, the air quality crisis continues to disrupt daily life and highlights the urgent need for sustainable environmental reforms.

Citizens and environmentalists alike are calling for more robust, long-term solutions to tackle Delhi’s recurring air quality emergency.
