New Delhi: Pollution levels in Delhi continue to rise. Despite the implementation of the second stage of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), there are no signs of improvement in the capital’s air. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data on Tuesday morning, Delhi’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 331, which falls in the very poor category. At the same time, the AQI crossed 400 in seven areas of the capital, with the air recorded in the severe category.

The worst situation was in Jahangirpuri, where the AQI was recorded at 449. It was 429 in Rohini, 424 in Punjabi Bagh, 413 in Alipur, 410 in Vivek Vihar, 406 in Narela and 403 in Bawana. Pollution levels in all these areas have reached the severe category. On the other hand, the AQI was recorded at 373 at ITO, 368 at Mandir Marg and 352 in Okhla Phase-2.

After the pollution situation worsened, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Monday implemented GRAP-2 restrictions across Delhi-NCR. Under these measures, directions have been issued for mechanical and vacuum sweeping of roads, spraying of dust suppressants with water, and increased monitoring at pollution hotspots and construction sites. Steps such as increasing parking fees and encouraging public transport to reduce the use of private vehicles are also included.

The impact of pollution was also visible in Noida. In Sector-62, the AQI was recorded at 404, which is in the severe category. Amid the continuously deteriorating air, children, the elderly and people struggling with respiratory problems need to take special precautions.
