CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Delhi government has introduced a series of fuel-saving measures, including two days of work-from-home every week and a weekly “No Vehicle Day,” following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for nationwide fuel conservation amid the escalating US-Iran conflict. The move aims to reduce fuel consumption, ease pressure on energy supplies, and prepare for possible economic disruptions caused by instability in the Middle East.
Under the new advisory, Delhi government departments have been encouraged to adopt remote working arrangements for employees twice a week wherever operationally feasible. Officials have also been directed to minimize unnecessary vehicle usage, promote carpooling, and increase reliance on public transport and electric vehicles. The government believes these measures will help cut fuel demand during a period of rising global oil prices.
The weekly “No Vehicle Day” initiative will require departments to avoid using official vehicles one designated day each week except for emergency and essential services. In addition, proposals for foreign travel by Delhi government officials have reportedly been put on hold until further notice.
The decision comes amid fears that prolonged tensions in the Strait of Hormuz could disrupt global crude oil supply chains and increase fuel prices in India. Officials stated that the measures are part of a broader preparedness strategy to ensure responsible energy usage and administrative efficiency during the ongoing international crisis.
