CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Delhi’s air quality has significantly deteriorated, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) slipping into the ‘very poor’ category, sparking concerns among residents and authorities alike. The worsening pollution levels have led to widespread health warnings, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing respiratory conditions.

The Supreme Court (SC) is set to review the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which outlines measures to curb pollution at various levels. GRAP’s measures include restrictions on construction activities, vehicular movement, and industrial emissions, depending on the severity of pollution. The SC’s intervention is expected to influence how strictly these measures are enforced in the capital and surrounding regions.

Environmental experts attribute the rising pollution levels to a combination of factors, including stubble burning in neighboring states, vehicular emissions, and unfavorable meteorological conditions. Citizens are being advised to limit outdoor activities and use masks to minimize exposure.

Delhi’s air pollution crisis has once again brought the spotlight on the urgent need for sustainable solutions to combat environmental degradation. The SC’s decision on GRAP will be critical in determining immediate steps to address the alarming AQI levels.
