CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. Preparations for the Chhath festival have been stepped up in Delhi. This time, the plan is to build more than 1,400 Chhath ghats in the capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed the departments concerned and the district administration to complete all necessary preparations by November 6. The administration’s aim is to provide devotees with a safe and convenient environment.

During Chhath Puja, a large number of devotees reach ghats built along the Yamuna and near various water bodies. In view of this, emphasis is being laid on arranging facilities such as cleanliness, adequate lighting, drinking water, toilets and changing rooms for women at the ghats. Instructions have also been issued to repair roads leading to the ghats and fill potholes so that devotees do not face difficulty in movement.

To strengthen security arrangements, major and large ghats will be monitored through CCTV cameras. Coordination will be established among the police, traffic police and departments concerned to manage crowds, keep traffic smooth and deal with emergencies. Fire tenders and other emergency services will also be deployed as required.

The administration has been instructed to carry out regular inspections of the ghats and address shortcomings in the preparations in time. Attention will also be given to deploying additional staff to maintain cleanliness and to ensuring regular disposal of waste.

In view of the possible rush of devotees during the Chhath festival, officials have been asked to complete all arrangements on time and maintain continuous monitoring during the festival days.
