CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. A digital model of Delhi’s roads will be prepared to provide relief from long traffic jams during peak hours. Under this initiative, the capital’s road network, vehicle movement and traffic pressure will be technically analysed. On this basis, the main causes of congestion will be identified and a plan will be prepared to improve the traffic system in the future.
An expenditure of around Rs 11.17 crore has been proposed for the project, and the study is targeted to be completed within three months. The digital model will use data related to the existing condition of roads, major intersections, the number of vehicles and traffic pressure during busy hours. This will help officials understand which routes and intersections face the heaviest congestion and what improvements could make traffic movement smoother.
In such traffic simulation models, different traffic conditions are assessed on the basis of technical data. Through this, the possible impact of road widening, changes at intersections, signal arrangements and other traffic improvements can be estimated. Earlier too, a plan had emerged in Delhi to study traffic pressure and road safety on nearly 450 kilometres of the road network, in which the use of technologies such as artificial intelligence and drone surveys was mentioned.
However, the preparation of the digital model will not end traffic jams immediately. Its objective is to prepare plans on the basis of scientific data and make better use of available road capacity. Along with the proposed Intelligent Traffic Management System in Delhi, such technical initiatives could help make traffic management more effective in the future.
