CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal : The Delhi High Court has denied bail to former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain in connection with the 2020 murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) staffer Ankit Sharma during the North East Delhi riots. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna dismissed Hussain’s regular bail plea, emphasizing the severity of the charges and the evidence presented.

Hussain was arrested on March 16, 2020, and has been in custody since. The prosecution alleges that Hussain, along with others, was involved in the brutal killing of Sharma, who was found with 51 injuries caused by sharp-edged weapons and blunt force. Sharma’s body was discovered in a drain near Chand Bagh Pulia.

The trial court had previously rejected Hussain’s bail application, noting that there was no material change in circumstances to warrant bail. Hussain’s counsel argued that he had already spent over five years in custody and that the trial was unlikely to conclude soon. However, the High Court upheld the trial court’s decision, citing the gravity of the offenses and the need to ensure justice for the victim.
