CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has invited an Expression of Interest (EOI) from Indian companies to manufacture platform screen doors (PSDs) domestically, marking a significant push towards indigenous metro technology under the Make in India initiative. The move aligns with directives from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to localize production and reduce reliance on costly imports.

Platform screen doors act as safety barriers between the platform and train tracks, opening only when trains arrive. Their installation is expected to enhance passenger safety, reduce accidents, and improve crowd management at busy stations.

Under Phase-4 and upcoming Phase-5 expansions, PSDs will be installed at all Delhi Metro stations, with full-height doors planned for underground stations and half-height versions for elevated corridors.

The EOI mandates at least 75% local manufacturing, encouraging domestic innovation and technology development. Selected firms will collaborate with DMRC on design, production, and deployment, with strict eligibility criteria to ensure technical capability and financial strength.

This initiative is expected to strengthen India’s metro infrastructure ecosystem while enhancing commuter safety and operational efficiency across the capital’s rapidly expanding transit network.
