CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. Passengers travelling on Delhi Metro may now get relief from the difficulty of boarding crowded coaches. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched a real-time coach occupancy display facility on the Pink Line. Through this, passengers will be able to check screens installed on platforms before the train arrives to know how crowded each coach is and where relatively more space is available.
This facility has already been operating on the Magenta Line since 2022. It has now also been implemented on the Pink Line. The Pink Line runs from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar and also includes the circular route of Maujpur-Babarpur.
Under this system, load sensors have been installed in every coach of the metro. These sensors measure the current weight of the coach and compare it with the weight of an empty coach. On the basis of this difference, the estimated number of passengers and the percentage of crowding are determined. Shortly before the train reaches the station, information on the six coaches is displayed in the sequence C-1 to C-6 on passenger information display screens installed on the platform.
With this facility, passengers will be able to move in advance towards less crowded coaches according to their needs. It is expected to provide convenience especially during the busy morning and evening hours. It will also help reduce the situation of excessive crowding in any one coach and support balanced distribution of passengers across all coaches.
According to DMRC, coordination of data between the circular route of the Pink Line and its different sections was challenging in implementing this system. Despite this, the facility has now been expanded.
