CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India Epress / ITDC News / Agencies, Bhopal: Air pollution in Delhi-NCR has once again created a serious situation. On the morning of Tuesday, November 3, the capital’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 334, which falls in the very poor category. After a continuous rise in pollution levels, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has implemented the second stage of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), or GRAP-2, across Delhi-NCR with immediate effect. Due to adverse weather conditions, the chances of relief over the next few days are also being described as low.
According to the data, Delhi’s AQI was 117 on October 31, rising to 261 on November 1. It then reached 324 by the evening of November 2. A further increase was recorded on Tuesday morning. According to forecasts by the weather department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, air quality may remain in the very poor category in the coming days.
Under GRAP-2, mechanised road cleaning, regular water sprinkling and the use of anti-smog guns as required will be increased. Checks of vehicle pollution certificates will be intensified, and monitoring on major roads will be increased to prevent traffic jams. Measures such as increasing parking fees and encouraging public transport will also be taken.
In addition, compliance with pollution control rules will be ensured in industries, brick kilns and power plants. Hotels, restaurants and dhabas have been instructed to avoid using coal and wood in tandoors and to adopt clean fuel. Action will also be taken against open burning of waste.
