CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. The weather in Delhi-NCR changed suddenly on the morning of Thursday, October 29. Rain was seen in several areas of the capital as well as in Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram. There was light drizzle in some places, while heavy showers cooled the weather in others. Morning rain and cloud cover brought people relief from the heat. Amid this change in weather, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR.

According to the weather department’s forecast, the sky is likely to remain cloudy through the day, with light to moderate rain expected at different times. A warning has also been issued for thunder and lightning, lightning strikes and strong winds along with the rain. Wind speed may reach 40 to 50 kmph in the morning, while winds are expected to blow at 30 to 40 kmph during the rest of the day. The possibility of hailstorms has also been indicated in parts of Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh.

Because of the rain, the capital’s temperature is likely to fall. According to the weather department, Delhi’s maximum temperature on Thursday may be around 27 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature about 17 degrees Celsius. Rain with thunder and lightning is also likely on Friday, October 30. After this, the sky may remain partly cloudy on October 31.

The change in weather may also affect pollution levels in Delhi. On Wednesday, the capital’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 229, which falls in the poor category. Rain and strong winds may reduce the level of pollutant particles in the air for some time, though this does not guarantee that pollution will be eliminated completely.

The weather department has advised people to avoid standing in open fields and under trees during thunder and lightning, and to take precautions amid strong winds. Motorists also need to travel keeping in mind slippery roads and reduced visibility during rain.
