Delhi Police have registered a case under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the Mukesh alias Bhola gang, said to be active in the Jahangirpuri area of north-west Delhi. According to police, the gang has allegedly been involved in serious crimes including murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, extortion and demanding ransom. Three accused have been arrested so far under this action. Police identified the arrested accused as Mukesh alias Bhola, Vipin and Suraj alias Dhela. Investigating agencies allege that the gang had been active for a long time in Jahangirpuri and nearby areas, and that its criminal activities had created an atmosphere of fear among local residents.

The purpose of action under MCOCA is to effectively curb gangs and their networks involved in organised crime. The use of this law may help police take forward the investigation into the gang’s activities, mutual contacts and alleged criminal network. Police officials said the investigation is continuing to identify other possible members linked to the gang. Their roles and facts connected with criminal activities are being examined. Further arrests and legal action will be taken as required.

Delhi Police say the campaign to curb organised crime and activities such as extortion is being intensified. However, the allegations against the accused will be established on the basis of evidence during the judicial process.
