New Delhi: Delhi Police have intensified their investigation into the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl at Aastha Kunj Park in Kalkaji, Delhi, and have prepared a chargesheet of more than 500 pages. Police may file it in court within the next week. The chargesheet includes statements of about 60 witnesses, forensic reports, CCTV footage and other important documents.

According to a senior police officer, the main section of the chargesheet, running to about 75 pages, has been prepared. It includes the statements of the victim and her male friend. Around 50 documents have also been added as evidence. Senior officers at Delhi Police headquarters are monitoring the case. A special public prosecutor has also been appointed for effective prosecution.

During the investigation, police examined footage from more than 300 CCTV cameras installed in the park and on nearby routes. The footage recorded over time includes the movements of the accused reaching the park, leaving from there and returning to their homes. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) report, samples collected from the crime scene, the clothes of the accused and the proceedings of the judicial test identification parade will also be part of the chargesheet.

Police have sent the mobile phones of the accused for forensic examination. The investigation found that their chat history had been deleted. Efforts are continuing to recover the related digital evidence.

The incident took place on September 22, when the girl had gone to Kalkaji temple with a friend on her birthday. Later, the two reached Aastha Kunj Park, where three accused allegedly threatened them and raped the girl at different locations. Police have arrested Asif, Hemant and Mahesh in the case. All three are currently in judicial custody.

A case has been registered against the accused under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act. After the chargesheet is filed, the trial process will move forward in court.
