CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: The Delhi Police Crime Branch has summoned Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka for questioning, a day after their release from judicial custody. The development comes amid an ongoing investigation into alleged unauthorised entry and protests at Jantar Mantar in the national capital.

According to media reports, the Crime Branch has taken over two cases registered against the CJP leaders in connection with incidents reported on October 13. Police alleged that Das, Ranka, Ajinkya Shinde and 11 other party members entered the Jantar Mantar area through private premises, despite the site no longer being designated as an authorised protest location.

The police detained all 14 members and registered two First Information Reports (FIRs). The cases involve allegations of trespassing, disobedience of official orders, obstruction of public servants and assault. These allegations remain subject to investigation.

Das and Ranka were initially sent to judicial custody for five days, which was subsequently extended by two days. The leaders challenged the custody proceedings and rejection of their sureties, maintaining that the action against them was unjustified.

The transfer of both cases to the Crime Branch marks a new stage in the investigation. The police will examine the circumstances surrounding the protest and the alleged violations. Further action will depend on the evidence gathered and the outcome of the ongoing legal proceedings. No finding of guilt has been established against the leaders at this stage.
