CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. Preparations for the Chhath Mahaparv have gathered pace in Delhi. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed that more than 1,400 Chhath ghats be prepared in the capital this year and that November 16 be observed as a public holiday.

At a review meeting with officials of the departments concerned on Tuesday, the Chief Minister stressed ensuring convenience, safety and cleanliness for devotees. This year, Chhath Puja will be celebrated from November 13 to 16. Last year, 1,326 Chhath ghats were prepared in Delhi.

Basic preparations to be completed by November 6

The Chief Minister directed officials to complete work related to basic facilities at the ghats by November 6. All major arrangements should be ready at least two days before the festival begins. Officials have been asked to inspect the ghats themselves and immediately remove shortcomings.

Keeping in mind the likely cold in November, covered tents will be installed as required at large and medium-sized ghats. Adequate toilets, changing rooms for women, drinking water and other essential facilities will be arranged for devotees.

CCTV monitoring, fire brigade deployment too

CCTV cameras will be installed at crowded ghats. Instructions have also been issued to deploy fire brigade vehicles around major puja sites and maintain coordination among the police, district administration and other agencies. Roads leading to the ghats will be repaired, potholes will be filled, and adequate lighting will be arranged on the routes.

Focus on cleanliness and traffic management

In view of the expected rush of devotees on November 15 and 16, teams of sanitation workers will remain active round the clock. Cleaning will be carried out after the evening arghya, night puja and the morning Usha arghya. Adequate large dustbins will also be installed to remove waste.

During Chhath, keeping in mind the rush of passengers travelling to Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, management will also be strengthened at railway stations and interstate bus terminals. The government’s aim is to provide devotees with a safe and convenient environment.
