CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Delhi private school fees rise up to 300% in 20 years
The cost of education in Delhi’s private schools has increased significantly over the past two decades. According to a report published on October 8, 2026, the monthly fee in ordinary private schools in Delhi around 2005-06 was about Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500, which has now reached Rs 6,000 to Rs 15,000 or more in many schools.
The report estimated that fees have increased by an average of 150 to 300 percent over the past 20 years. However, this figure does not apply uniformly to all schools and may vary according to the level of the school and the facilities offered.
The fee burden is not limited to tuition fees alone. Admission fees, annual charges, development fees, books, uniforms and transport costs also affect parents’ budgets. For many families, spending on children’s education has become a major part of household income.
There has been a long-running dispute in Delhi over fee increases. To make the fee-setting process in private schools more transparent for the academic sessions 2026-27 to 2028-29, the Delhi government has introduced school-level fee regulation committees. Schools will have to present justification for any proposed fee increase.
Parents are advised to verify fee-related information through official school notices and instructions issued by the Education Department.
