Delhi Schools Promote NIOS Maths To Reduce Dropouts

CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Directorate of Education (DoE) in Delhi has directed schools to actively inform students and parents about the option of studying Mathematics through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), a move aimed at reducing dropout rates and helping students complete their education successfully. The initiative is particularly focused on students who face difficulties in clearing Mathematics, often considered one of the major reasons behind academic stress and school dropouts.

Under the arrangement, students enrolled in regular schools can opt to study Mathematics as an additional subject through NIOS while continuing their mainstream education. Education officials believe that this flexible approach will provide struggling students with an alternative pathway to fulfill academic requirements without discontinuing their studies.

The DoE has instructed schools to conduct awareness campaigns, counseling sessions, and parent interactions to ensure that eligible students understand the benefits of the scheme. School authorities have also been asked to highlight the option during admissions, academic guidance programs, and career counseling activities.

Education experts note that Mathematics has historically been a challenging subject for many students, leading to repeated failures and, in some cases, withdrawal from formal education. By providing an alternative mechanism through NIOS, authorities hope to improve pass percentages, boost student confidence, and ensure continuity in learning.

The initiative reflects a broader effort to make education more inclusive, flexible, and student-friendly while minimizing dropouts and supporting learners with diverse academic needs.
