CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: Trinamool Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale has raised questions over the electoral-roll mapping of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Delhi.
Gokhale claimed in a post on X that Kumar is listed in the Delhi draft electoral roll as “Gyanesh Kumar, son of Subodh Kumar”. He said he searched previous SIR rolls of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala but could not find a matching entry with the same name and parentage.
Gokhale questioned how Kumar’s current voter entry was mapped under the SIR process and asked the Election Commission to clarify which state’s previous SIR roll was used for the mapping. He also asked whether Kumar was registered as a voter in the 2002-03 SIR rolls and whether he received any notice concerning an “unmapped voter” or “logical discrepancy”.
The Election Commission had not immediately responded to the questions when the reports were published. The ECI’s official directory identifies Gyanesh Kumar as the Chief Election Commissioner.
The claims regarding the absence of Kumar’s name from earlier rolls and any notice issued to him have not been independently established. The issue concerns electoral-roll mapping under the SIR exercise and does not, by itself, establish any conclusion about Kumar’s citizenship.
