CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. The government’s winter action plan to control air pollution that rises during winter in Delhi has come into force from November 1. The plan will remain effective until February 28, 2027. Under it, several important restrictions have been imposed on vehicle movement, construction activities, office operations and the use of private vehicles. Prepared under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the plan aims to control major sources of pollution and improve the air quality of the capital.
Under the plan, a provision has been implemented to deny petrol, diesel, CNG and LPG to vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC). In addition, entry of petrol and diesel vehicles below BS-6 standards registered outside Delhi will remain barred from November 1 to January 31, 2027. Electric and CNG vehicles have been exempted from this restriction.
To reduce the number of vehicles and traffic pressure, fees at authorised parking sites will be doubled. Parking sites operated by Delhi Metro have been exempted from this. A work-from-home arrangement has also been implemented for 50 percent of employees in offices. This arrangement will apply to government and private offices, while essential services have been exempted. Delhi Municipal Corporation offices will operate from 8:30 am to 5 pm, and Delhi government offices from 10 am to 6:30 pm.
To control dust from construction, dust-generating demolition activities and open construction work will be banned from November 1 to January 31. Thereafter, a complete ban on all construction and demolition activities will be implemented from December 10 to January 20.
The government has also planned to promote the use of public transport, metro and electric bus services, along with encouraging car pooling. Artificial intelligence-based technology and CCTV will be used to monitor construction sites. Officials have been instructed to take action against those violating pollution control rules. The government has appealed to citizens to limit the use of private vehicles, adopt public transport and not burn waste or other material in the open.
