CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. To control the rise in air pollution during winter in Delhi, the government is set to implement a Winter Action Plan from November 1. Under the plan, several restrictive measures will be taken regarding vehicles, construction activities, offices and parking arrangements. The aim of the plan is to control major sources of pollution and improve the capital’s air quality. The arrangement will remain in force until February 28, 2027.
Under the plan, from November 1, vehicles without a valid pollution under control certificate (PUC) will not be given petrol or diesel in Delhi. In addition, vehicles registered outside Delhi and below BS-6 standards will be barred from entering from November 1 to January 31. However, CNG and electric vehicles have been exempted from this restriction.
The government has decided to double fees at authorised parking sites to reduce the use of private vehicles. This increase will not apply to parking sites owned and operated by Delhi Metro. To reduce employee movement to offices, the plan also includes an arrangement under which 50 percent of employees will work from home and the remaining employees will be called to offices. Along with this, government office timings will be staggered. Municipal corporation offices will function from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., while Delhi government offices will operate from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
To control dust from construction and demolition, dust-generating demolition activities and outdoor construction work will be banned from November 1 to January 31. A complete ban on all construction and demolition activities will remain in place from December 10 to January 20. Artificial intelligence-based technology will also be used to monitor construction sites.
The plan also seeks to promote public transport, electric buses, the metro and shared mobility systems. The government has also appealed to citizens to cooperate in pollution control.
