CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat has instructed that departmental officers must inspect all dams before the onset of the monsoon, and any necessary repair work should be completed in advance. He emphasized that maintenance of dam gates must be carried out to ensure they remain in fully functional condition.

Minister Silawat conducted a review meeting via video conferencing from the Ministry to assess departmental operations. The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Rajesh Rajora, Chief Engineer Vinod Kumar Devda, and other officials. Regional officers also joined via video conferencing.

The meeting reviewed pre-monsoon preparations and the Jal Ganga Conservation Program being implemented by the department.

Chief Engineer Vinod Devda presented the department’s action plan for dam safety and disaster preparedness before the monsoon, along with an overview of ongoing water conservation initiatives through a detailed presentation.

Minister Silawat directed that flood control rooms be set up at the district level, ensuring 24/7 operation. He also ordered the formation of inspection teams for regular monitoring, and instructed that no officer may leave headquarters during the rainy season without prior approval from a competent authority.

He further directed that advance notifications must be issued to all district officials, public representatives, and other relevant institutions before the release of water from dams. The public must be notified well in advance at locations where water is to be released.

According to the departmental manual, pre-monsoon inspection reports must be uploaded to the departmental portal, and for states covered under the Dam Safety Act of the Government of India, relevant reports must also be uploaded on the Government of India’s portal in a timely manner.

The Minister also instructed that the Jal Ganga Conservation Program should be implemented at full pace and completed within the next 14 days. A detailed report must be submitted within 3 days of the program’s conclusion.

Mr. Silawat expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing construction projects and directed that the maximum number of works be completed before the monsoon begins.
