CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the auspicious occasion of the beginning of Vikram Samvat 2083, a program was organized at the Pashupatinath Temple complex (Aradhana Hall) in Mandsaur. On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda performed Surya Upasana (sun worship) and ceremoniously hoisted the Brahmadhwaj. He also participated in the aarti of Lord Pashupatinath at the temple.
The event witnessed the esteemed presence of Rajya Sabha MP Bansilal Gurjar, Zilla Panchayat Chairperson Durga Vijay Patidar, Municipal Chairperson Ramadevi Bansilal Gurjar, former MLA Yashpal Singh Sisodia, Saint Maheshmani Chaitanya Maharaj, and other public representatives. Administrative officers, including Collector Aditi Garg, along with a large number of citizens and journalists, were also present.
Deputy Chief Minister Devda extended greetings on the occasion of Varsh Pratipada and said that the Madhya Pradesh government is reviving this tradition by organizing such programs in every district headquarters. He stated that events like these provide the public an opportunity to connect with India’s rich cultural and historical heritage. He wished everyone a prosperous, joyful, and beneficial New Year for the state and the nation.
The program began with Surya Upasana, followed by the ceremonial hoisting of the Brahmadhwaj. The event was organized in celebration of the Indian New Year, Varsh Pratipada (Gudi Padwa). With the support of the Department of Culture and Madhya Pradesh Natya Vidyalaya, a grand theatrical performance on the life of Emperor Vikramaditya was staged, presented by the Ujjain-based Parishkriti Social and Cultural Organization.
The play vividly depicted Emperor Vikramaditya’s life, including Betal Pachisi, the 32-Puppet Throne, victories over the Shakas, the Navaratnas (nine gems), his bravery, and his justice. During the event, a booklet on the Indian New Year, Vikram Samvat, was distributed to help the public understand the historical significance of the New Year and Indian traditions.
