CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Chitkara Design School hosted DesignUp Day at Chitkara University, bringing together designers, industry practitioners and creative thinkers for conversations on the evolving role of design and its potential to create meaningful impact. The event was held as part of the 10th edition of the DesignUp Conference.
The programme gave students an opportunity to interact with professionals from diverse creative and professional backgrounds and explore design beyond conventional boundaries. Sessions examined the intersection of design, technology, storytelling, human-centred practices and social impact.
The event featured Alysha Naples, Designer, Artist, Coach and Somatic Practitioner; Shiva Vishwanathan, Curator and Director, DesignUp; Niteesh Yadav, AVP – Design and Research at Pocket FM; and Meru Vashisht, Human-Centered Design Lead at the International Rescue Committee.
Through discussions and interactive sessions, students explored how observation, empathy, experimentation and interdisciplinary thinking can help designers understand people, identify challenges and develop relevant solutions.
Dr Madhu Chitkara, President and Co-founder, Chitkara University, emphasised that design goes beyond aesthetics and requires an understanding of what matters to people. She highlighted the importance of empathy, thoughtful questioning and engagement with practitioners in preparing students for the responsibilities of the profession.
DesignUp Day also encouraged participants to reflect on the changing responsibilities of designers in a world shaped by emerging technologies, social complexities and evolving human needs. For Chitkara Design School students, the programme provided an opportunity to connect academic learning with contemporary industry practices and real-world challenges.
The event reinforced the role of purposeful, human-centred and interdisciplinary design in creating solutions that respond meaningfully to people and their surroundings.
