CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Morena. Amid Chambal’s old identity linked to dacoits, Dev Prabhakar Singh Tomar has carved out a distinct identity after emerging from Morena district in Madhya Pradesh. According to him, his grandfather became a rebel around 75 years ago because of family circumstances and a dispute with officials of the time. Later, his uncle also took the same path. In contrast, Dev’s father left the village, chose the path of education and became a teacher.
Dev completed his early schooling under the Madhya Pradesh Board and enrolled in a CBSE school in Class 6. Coming from a rural background, he initially faced difficulties with the English medium and the new environment. In Class 11, he set a goal of getting into IIT and, despite financial limitations, prepared while staying at home. He was then selected for electrical engineering at IIT Ropar.
After studying at IIT, Dev got a job with Philips in the Netherlands. While working there, he decided to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. After leaving the job and returning to India, he continued his preparation while working as a teacher in Delhi. He did not succeed in the initial attempts, but changed his preparation strategy and kept making consistent efforts.
In the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025 results, Dev Prabhakar Singh Tomar secured the 629th all-India rank. He was subsequently selected for the Indian Railway Traffic Service. His story presents a new path built in education and government service, separate from his family’s old identity.
