CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi, former Director General of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, said that the popular image of Narad Ji, as it has been created and perceived, is completely different from his true nature. His public image is often associated with creating disputes or conflicts, whereas every one of his communications carries the spirit of Lokmangal (public welfare).
He added that as a messenger of the divine, Narad Ji’s movements and actions show that he does not engage in meaningless communication or travel. He emphasized that credibility, continuous mobility, and purity of purpose are three essential qualities for any journalist.
Prof. Dwivedi was addressing an online special lecture organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, on the occasion of Devarshi Narad Jayanti. The theme of the lecture was “Sense of Self in Nationalist Journalism,” which included an extensive discussion on journalistic values, responsibilities, and the role of media in nation-building. The session was chaired by University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vinay Kumar Pathak.
During his address, Prof. Dwivedi said that Narad Ji communicates with all—gods, demons, and all sections of society—and everyone trusts him. He is a counselor, friend, teacher, and guide to all. He is timeless and travels across all eras and realms with equal spirit. When he speaks about the divine, his philosophical personality also becomes evident.
He further stated that Narad Ji comes from the great sage tradition but does not establish any ashram or monastery. He remains in constant travel, and every journey he undertakes is purposeful. His objective is continuous communication and connection, and whatever he says or does contributes to public welfare. From his life, one can learn the importance of continuous dialogue, mobility, connection, and communication for social good. He stressed that purity and value consciousness in public communication are essential to create a better world, ensuring that communication remains centered on public interest.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vinay Kumar Pathak, while presiding over the session, said that Devarshi Narad is regarded in Indian tradition as the first journalist who always prioritized truth and public welfare. Therefore, his ideals continue to inspire journalism students and professionals even today. He emphasized that preserving journalistic values is the greatest challenge of the present time. True understanding of one’s culture and duties is the essence of self-awareness, and this self-awareness is essential for national development.
Head of Department Dr. Diwakar Awasthi said that the occasion is not just a mythological celebration but a moment for introspection on the values and ideals of national journalism. The life of Maharshi Narad teaches that the truth and purpose of information are more important than its speed. Program coordinator Dr. Hariom Kumar stated that there is a need to establish the “Narad Communication Model” for global communication standards.
While conducting the program, Dr. Om Shankar Gupta said that Devarshi Narad’s personality and working style serve as a guiding pillar for the media world, and media students should study Narad communication in depth.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Yogendra Kumar Pandey. The program was attended online by Assistant Professors Dr. Jitendra Dabral, Prem Kishore Shukla, Sagar Kanojia, along with many students.
