Despite fluctuations in gold and silver prices, customer interest remained steady in the bullion market. People bought gold and silver jewellery, coins and idols. Major commercial areas, including Sadar Bazar and Golbazar, remained busy until late at night.
Demand also seen for utensils, clothing and electronics
Following the tradition of buying utensils on Dhanteras, steel, copper, brass and bronze utensils sold well in Golbazar and Shanichari Bazar. In the electronics markets of Telipara and Juna Bilaspur, there was demand for televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, mobile phones and decorative lights. Clothing shops also saw crowds of customers shopping for the festival and the wedding season.
According to traders, preparations for the wedding season, along with the festival, also gave momentum to the market. Shopping that continued late into the night has raised traders’ hopes of good business for the remaining days of Diwali as well.
