CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: New Delhi, October 10. Reports have emerged that YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was detained ahead of the proposed protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). According to media reports, Delhi Police detained him on Saturday morning from his residence in Sector 56, Gurugram, Haryana. The action was taken before the protest scheduled to be held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
The CJP had called for a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10. The organisation is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demand is linked to questions raised over the special intensive revision of the voter list.
Security has been tightened in Delhi and surrounding areas in view of the protest. Police had not granted permission for the proposed demonstration. Barricading, deployment of additional police personnel and traffic-related restrictions have been put in place in several parts of the capital. Mobile internet services have also been temporarily suspended in some areas.
The report of Dhruv Rathee’s detention came at a time when CJP supporters and leaders were planning to reach Delhi to take part in the protest. However, according to available reports, no official confirmation from police regarding the detention had been issued until that time. Further information on the developments is awaited.
