CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Diesel in Dubai ₹28 costlier than Delhi as oil prices rise
Dubai/New Delhi. The impact of the continuing conflict in West Asia is being seen in fuel prices. In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the price of diesel during October 2026 has risen to 4.80 dirhams per litre. In September, the rate was 4.30 dirhams per litre. This means diesel prices have increased by about 11.6 percent in one month. In Indian rupees, this works out to around ₹123 per litre, while diesel in Delhi is around ₹95 per litre. On this basis, diesel in Dubai is about ₹28 costlier than in Delhi.
Fuel prices in the UAE are linked to the international market. Retail prices of petrol and diesel in the UAE are set every month on the basis of international market conditions. In October, petrol prices were also increased along with diesel. The price of Super 98 petrol has been fixed at 4.40 dirhams, Special 95 at 4.28 dirhams and E-Plus 91 at 4.21 dirhams per litre.
The key factors behind this rise in fuel prices are fluctuations in the global oil market and uncertainty linked to the conflict in West Asia. Concerns over possible disruption to oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz have also increased pressure on the market.
Fuel costlier after war, burden on consumers rises
A significant increase in fuel prices has been recorded in the UAE after the conflict began in February 2026. However, the rise in prices has not been uniform every month, and some relief was also seen in between. In October, the diesel rate rose by 50 fils per litre compared with September. The impact of costlier diesel is not limited only to motorists. The cost of freight, logistics, construction and other business activities may also increase. This is feared to have a further impact on the prices of goods and services.
Price situation different in India
The systems for fixing fuel prices in India and the UAE are different. In the UAE, retail rates are revised every month according to fluctuations in the international market, while in India, prices are also affected by global crude oil rates as well as taxes, marketing costs and the pricing policy of oil companies. For this reason, diesel can be sold at a higher price in the UAE, an oil-producing region, than in India’s capital. The direction of fuel prices ahead will depend to a large extent on the international crude oil market, the regional security situation and stability in supply routes.
