CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: An industry interaction session on the topic “Digital Media and AI” was organized by the Department of New Media Technology at Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication (MCU). The session was held at Swami Vivekananda Auditorium and was chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Vijay Manohar Tiwari.
The key speakers for the session were Bilal Bhatt, Group Editor, ETV Bharat, and J. Srinivas, CEO, ETV Bharat Group. The session was coordinated by Prof. P. Shashikala, Head of the Department and Dean.
Chairing the session, Vice Chancellor Vijay Manohar Tiwari emphasized the need to bridge the gap between classrooms and newsrooms. He stated that a degree is merely a gate pass to enter media institutions. He also pointed out the differences between press conferences held in North and South India.
Director Tiwari further remarked that students should not limit their goals to just securing a job. Instead, they should use technology like the Internet and AI to reach the depths of truth in journalism.
In the industry dialogue session, Bilal Bhatt noted that the use of technology in media has significantly increased. He also shared insights on junk journalism and how AI is being used in media.
- Srinivas, the other keynote speaker, explained that print, radio, and television are one-way communication mediums where the content creator decides what, when, and how to present information. He also discussed misinformation and disinformation, along with issues related to content quality checks, social media accountability, freedom with responsibility, push and pull content models (such as podcasts and OTT platforms).
The program was hosted by Divyashree Mishra and Vaishnavi Chaudhary, while a vote of thanks was delivered by Assistant Professor Manoj Kumar Dhurve. The event was attended by Registrar Prof. Dr. Avinash Vapjeyi, heads of departments, faculty members, and students.
