In this changing era of technology, the work of journalism and public relations is no longer limited to newspapers, TV or radio. The growing influence of social media has created many new career opportunities in journalism and public relations, where anyone can find good employment and self-employment through digital platforms by using their knowledge, skills and innovations,” senior journalist, public relations professional and subject expert Hitesh Kushwaha said.
He was speaking on Teachers’ Day at a “special dialogue on career opportunities in journalism and public relations” organised for Class 11 and 12 students at Government Sandipani Higher Secondary School, Nishatpura. More than 350 students of Classes 11 and 12 participated in the programme.
The event was organised by the Pushpendra Pal Singh Foundation, established in memory of the late Pushpendra Pal Singh (PP Sir), who was a teacher and mentor to thousands of professionals working across several media streams, active journalism and public relations across the country.
Kushwaha said young people entering journalism today should not only learn to write, but also develop an understanding of digital content, video, social media, mobile journalism and technology. He advised students not to make a job their only goal while choosing a career, but to identify their interests and skills and develop the habit of continuous learning. He said children would have to start preparing from today to achieve their future goals.
During the interaction, students asked questions related to careers in media, required qualifications and changing opportunities. Students said their understanding of the media sector had so far been largely limited to TV and newspapers, but the dialogue helped them learn about new career options available in social media and digital media.
The programme began with a plantation drive in memory of the late Pushpendra Pal Singh “PP Sir”. Foundation vice-president Mridul Jain shared information about the foundation’s objectives and activities. On the occasion, five teachers of the school – Kanti Jain, Ankush Verma, Manoj Kumari Mishra, Sandhya Adlak and Rashida Begum – were honoured for their contribution to education and student welfare. A special memento was also presented to the school.
Sandipani School principal R. C. Jain described the dialogue organised by the foundation for students and the honouring of teachers as a commendable initiative.
Foundation president Ms Shanu Singh said that organising a career dialogue with students and honouring teachers on Teachers’ Day was an innovative effort to meaningfully carry forward the memory of her father. Foundation treasurer Yogita Singh and former students of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, including Ritesh Purohit, Rahul Choukse, Prachi Choukse, Manish Agrawal and Aditya Tiwari, along with a large number of school staff, were present at the programme.
