CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Digital QR Code Facility for General Tickets Launched at Bhopal and Rani Kamalapati Railway Stations In a significant step to promote Digital India, the Bhopal division of West Central Railway has introduced digital QR codes at Bhopal and Rani Kamalapati railway stations, enabling passengers to quickly purchase unreserved (general) tickets. This initiative, under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Devashish Tripathi, aims to make travel more convenient and faster for passengers. QR codes have been installed at these two major stations out of the 78 stations in the division, with installation continuing at the remaining stations.
With this new facility, passengers can now benefit from cashless transactions. Using QR codes eliminates the need for cash and addresses the problem of handling loose change. Each transaction generates a unique digital QR code, which displays the payment amount along with information about the “departure” and “destination” stations. This ensures complete transparency in the process, as the informationRani Kamalapati Railway Stations is visible on the digital QR code. When passengers scan the QR code, the fare amount will automatically appear on their mobile phones, eliminating the need to enter the fare manually. This speeds up the transaction process, allowing passengers to obtain their general tickets more quickly.
Previously, at the UTS counter, ticket booking through the railway UPI ID system involved recording the ID in the system, after which a message would be sent to the passenger’s mobile phone requiring them to enter the fare amount. This process took more time and sometimes led to transaction failures. With the new digital QR code system, the process has become simpler, more transparent, and faster.
At Bhopal station, there are a total of six counters for unreserved tickets, all equipped with digital QR codes. Similarly, Rani Kamalapati station has three unreserved ticket counters, all of which are also equipped with digital QR codes. This facility will not only simplify the payment process for passengers but also streamline the work for railway staff.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Mr. Saurabh Kataria of Bhopal Division stated that this initiative will provide passengers with an easy digital payment option and facilitate cashless transactions. He noted that this step is a significant move towards promoting the goals of Digital India and reflects the railway administration’s ongoing commitment to ensuring passenger safety and convenience.
