CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Minister of Higher Education, Technical Education, and AYUSH, Inder Singh Parmar, expressed his condolences and paid tribute to Dinanath Batra, former President of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas and National Convenor of the Save Education Movement, upon his passing. Director Parmar said, “With the passing of the venerable Dinanath Batra, a torchbearer of Indian values in education, a brilliant star of Indian knowledge traditions has been lost.” Director Parmar added that the late Mr. Batra was an inspirational teacher, a great educationist, a true devotee of Indian values in education, and someone who dedicated his life to the cause of education. His passing is an irreparable loss to the educational world.
Director Parmar further remarked that bringing the essence of Indian knowledge traditions to future generations would be the true tribute to the late Dinanath Batra.
The Legacy of Dinanath Batra, a Flag-Bearer of Indian Values in Education
Dinanath Batra was born on March 5, 1930, in Dera Ghazi Khan, which is now in present-day Pakistan. After studying at the University of Lahore, he began his teaching career. Batra also served as the principal of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita College in Kurukshetra. Through the ‘Save Education Movement Committee,’ he led a movement to reform education. He served as principal of DAV School in Derabassi, Punjab, from 1955 to 1965, and Geeta Senior Secondary School in Kurukshetra from 1965 to 1990. He was involved with the Haryana Education Board curriculum, Delhi Education Board, Delhi Education Code Committee, and the Delhi Moral Education Committee as a member.
He served as the General Secretary of the Haryana Teachers’ Union and as the Executive President of the All India Hindustan Scouts and Guides. He held national roles as the General Secretary and Vice President of Vidya Bharati, a nationwide educational organization. He was a member of the National Executive Committee of Vidya Bharati, working consistently for educational reform at the national level. He also served as Director and Patron of the Panchanad Research Institute and was a member of the executive committee of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). He was involved with the Indian Institute of Education Research in Lucknow and served as President of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan and National Convenor of the Save Education Movement.
Respected Dinanath Batra authored many books, including Indianization of Education, Tejomay Bharat, Preranadeep (Volumes 1, 2, 3, and 4), The Home of Values in Schools, Triveni in Teaching, Triveni of Education, Examination, and Evaluation, Vedic Mathematics, Awakening of the Teacher’s Spirit, Veervrat Param Samarthya, Atmavat Sarva Bhuteshu, Mother’s Call, Worship So Pure, Our Goal, Value-Rich Environment in Schools, Alaya of School Activities, A Curriculum for Character Building and Holistic Personality Development, among others.
The late Mr. Batra received numerous honors and awards for his outstanding work in education, including the ‘Medal of Merit’ from the Governor of Haryana for Bharat Scouts, a certificate of appreciation from the Haryana Education Board, awards for best teacher, a National Award in teaching from the President, a commendation certificate from Bharat Vikas Parishad (North Zone, Haryana), the Swami Krishnanand Saraswati Award in 2010, the Bikaner Commendation Letter, the 2012 Literary Award, and the Swami Akhandanand Saraswati Distinguished Personality Award.
