CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bhopal: Bhopal Division Commissioner Sanjeev Singh on Friday toured Rajgarh district and inspected various ongoing activities there. During the district visit, he toured Gram Manpichhodi and Gram Chainpura under Narsinghgarh Janpad Panchayat and reviewed several works related to water conservation and rural development. Collector Girish Kumar Mishra, Chief Executive Officer, District Panchayat, Ichchhit Gadhpale, and officials of the concerned departments were present during the visit.
At Gram Manpichhodi, Commissioner Singh inspected a farm pond, the under-construction Gram Panchayat building and a recharge shaft. While reviewing the progress of water conservation and rural development works, he directed officials to maintain construction quality and complete the works within the stipulated timeframe. Appreciating the farm pond construction and conservation works, he stressed the need to continue such efforts. He also inspected the work on the under-construction Gram Panchayat building and issued necessary directions.
Thereafter, Commissioner Singh reached Gram Chainpura and reviewed innovations and water conservation works being carried out under the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan. He inspected contour trenches, a magic pit, dugwell recharge and an under-construction recharge shaft. During the inspection, he also obtained information about the grey water utilization model and the structure and cost of the recharge shaft unit installed behind every house. Commissioner Singh said such efforts for rainwater conservation and groundwater recharge would play an important role in addressing water scarcity in the future. Appreciating the works being undertaken under the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan, he termed it an effective initiative towards ensuring water security in rural areas.
During the inspection, officials informed him that a target had been set to construct 200 recharge shafts in Gram Chainpura to promote water conservation and groundwater recharge. For this, locations of defunct handpumps in the village are being identified, and after obtaining the list from the Public Health Engineering Department (PHE), an action plan has been prepared to construct recharge shafts at these locations. This will make maximum rainwater harvesting possible, improve the groundwater level and reduce the possibility of a drinking water crisis in the future. Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Singh also inspected a recharge shaft built by the Gram Panchayat on government land in Gram Chainpura. Expressing satisfaction over the work plan and preparations, he described it as a model initiative in the field of water conservation. He directed the concerned officials to encourage adoption of this model in other areas as well. He also informed farmers in Jamunia, Narsinghgarh, about the e-token system and the Balram app.
Commissioner inspects Mohanpura-Kundalia irrigation projects
Commissioner Sanjeev Singh reached Kharna village and conducted a detailed review of the pump house pressure system, solar connection panel and water distribution arrangement among farmers under the Mohanpura irrigation project. During this, he interacted with farmers and obtained information about the status and arrangements of irrigation water distribution. During the inspection, he also sought details from officials regarding the progress and operation of four parts of the Mohanpura project and three parts of the Kundalia project. Commissioner Singh directed officials to ensure effective operation of the projects and timely availability of adequate irrigation water to farmers. He also asked the concerned officials to regularly monitor the arrangements and ensure prompt resolution of any technical problem.
Inspiring journey of the Mohanpura-Kundalia project
Project in-charge Rajouria gave a detailed presentation on the story of the Mohanpura-Kundalia project. He said the transition from the traditional canal-based irrigation system to a pressurised irrigation system was a major challenge, which was successfully accomplished. The presentation said the project is based on a lift irrigation system and an extensive piped irrigation network. Under the Mohanpura model, an arrangement has been developed to carry water directly from the reservoir to the farm, without using open canals. Instead, water is supplied to farmers at field level through a pipeline network.
Review of Agriculture and Horticulture Department activities
Under the project, water has been stored by constructing dams on the Newaj and Kalisindh rivers, and is being supplied to the command area through a modern pumping and distribution system. This model has reduced water loss, increased irrigation efficiency and ensured equitable distribution of water. Rajouria said a dedicated team of officers and employees completed this ambitious project after nearly five years of tireless effort. The Mohanpura-Kundalia project has emerged as a successful example of water conservation, modern irrigation technology and increased agricultural productivity, playing an important role in the prosperity of farmers and the sustainable development of the region. Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Singh also reviewed the activities of the Agriculture Department and Horticulture Department at the Mohanpura pump house.
