CNN Central News and Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies: In Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the district magistrate strongly reprimanded the Public Works Department executive engineer (XEN) over the poor quality of road construction. After disregard of standards and negligence in the construction work came to light, the DM took a tough stand and said, “Now be prepared to go to jail.” Expressing anger, he said a spectacle had been made in the name of road construction and such misuse of government funds would not be tolerated.
During the inspection, the district magistrate raised questions over the condition of the road and the quality of material used in the construction. Seeking explanations from the officials concerned, he said that despite being given responsibility for development works, if construction is not being carried out according to standards, it amounts to serious negligence.
The DM directed officials to conduct a technical examination of the quality of the road construction and to take action against those responsible if defects are found. He made it clear that any irregularity or negligence in government schemes would not be ignored. After the district magistrate’s strict action, there was a stir among departmental officials linked to the construction work. The administration has instructed that the process of investigating the matter and fixing responsibility be taken forward.
