CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Daily Physical Activity or Running Can Lead to Injuries for 4 Out of 5 People Without Proper Footwear

Not wearing shoes suited to your foot movement and arch alignment can lead to injuries for 4 out of 5 individuals engaging in daily physical activity or running. This can result in arthritis, back pain, neck pain, or other related problems. A good physiotherapist can help determine the right footwear for your body to avoid these issues.

This insight was shared by Dr. Abhishek Jain, Consultant Radiologist specializing in Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine at Liverpool University, United Kingdom, during a workshop at BMHRC. The workshop focused on “Musculoskeletal Problems in Middle Age” and was part of a series aimed at raising awareness about health issues among female employees of the institute. BMHRC’s Acting Director, Dr. Manisha Srivastava, highlighted the initiative as part of regular monthly sessions to improve employee health awareness.

Director Dr. Saurabh Dixit emphasized that holding the neck in one posture for an extended period can lead to musculoskeletal problems. He cautioned against giving mobile phones to children for more than 30 minutes, as excessive use is leading to an increase in cervical pain among youngsters. He noted that many parents now visit OPDs with complaints of neck pain in their children. Dr. Dixit explained that diagnosing cervical issues is straightforward, often requiring only an X-ray rather than more advanced imaging like CT scans or MRIs.

Dr. Lalit Kumar, Head of the Pulmonary Department at BMHRC, added that while musculoskeletal problems are often considered a concern for the elderly, modern lifestyles are making younger individuals increasingly susceptible to such issues.
