CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the able leadership of AIIMS Bhopal’s Executive Director, Prof. Ajay Singh, the institute continues to make significant contributions to scientific progress and the dissemination of knowledge. In line with this commitment, Dr. Bhavana Dhingra, Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at AIIMS Bhopal, participated in the 13th Conference of the International Society of Neonatal Screening held in Luxembourg.

She presented her research on screening for common metabolic disorders and hemoglobinopathies in newborns. The conference was attended by over 100 experts from around the world, and her work received wide appreciation from the global scientific community.

In developed countries, newborn screening is a well-established process that enables early detection and treatment of congenital and metabolic disorders. However, India has yet to implement a universal newborn screening program. Taking a pioneering step in this direction, AIIMS Bhopal, in collaboration with the State National Health Mission (NHM), has established the first newborn screening facility in Central India in the public health sector.

Highlighting the importance of this achievement, Prof. Ajay Singh said, “Newborn screening is a vital public health initiative that can save lives through early diagnosis and treatment of congenital disorders. AIIMS Bhopal is committed to strengthening neonatal health services and setting new standards in pediatric medicine. Dr. Bhavana Dhingra’s contribution on a global platform reflects our institute’s dedication to medical research and innovation.”
