CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Dr. Namvar Singh National Award, presented by the Viplavi Library, Godargawan, Begusarai (Bihar), will be conferred during a two-day annual festival on 22–23 March.
Rajendra Rajan, Convenor of the Award Committee, informed that Prof. Ashish Tripathi was selected for this honour in the meeting of the Managing Committee held on 21 December 2025. The first Namvar Singh Award was presented in 2020 to renowned litterateur Acharya Vishwanath Tripathi of Delhi. Since then, the award has been conferred upon Naresh Saxena (Lucknow), Prof. Avadhesh Pradhan (Varanasi), Prof. Shambhunath (Kolkata), Prof. Purushottam Agarwal (Delhi), and Prof. Brajkumar Pandey (Patna).
In the centenary year of Namvar Singh, this award is being presented to poet, critic, and editor Prof. Ashish Tripathi, who has played a significant role in preserving and enriching Namvar Singh’s personality and literary legacy. Born on 21 September 1973 in the village of Jamunihai in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh, Prof. Tripathi is currently a Professor in the Department of Hindi at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
He developed an interest in poetry at a young age, and his first poem was published in 1986. His poems have been published continuously since 1994. His first poetry collection, Ek Rang Thahara Hua, was published in 2010 and was honoured with the Laxman Prasad Mandloi Memorial Award. His second poetry collection, Shanti Parv, was published in 2024.
Along with poetry, Prof. Tripathi has been extremely active in the field of literary criticism. His book Samkaleen Hindi Rangmanch aur Rangbhasha has already been published. Another book on The Bhakti Movement and Tulsidas and a research-based work on The Influence of Folk Theatre Traditions on Hindi Drama are nearly complete and are in the process of publication. Currently, under the Raza Fellowship, he is engaged in writing the biography of Habib Tanvir. He was honoured with the Spandan Award for criticism in 2016.
Dr. Ashish Tripathi has edited nineteen books of Prof. Namvar Singh, including Zamane Se Do Do Haath, Premchand aur Bharatiya Samaj, Hindi ka Gadyaparv, Kavita ki Zameen aur Zameen ki Kavita, Alochana aur Vichardhara, Sahitya ki Pehchan, Sammukh, Saath Saath, Alochana aur Samvad, Purvarang, Tumhara Namvar, Sang Satsang, Jeevan Kya Jiya, Kitabnama, Samay Se Samvad, Yathaprasang, Adhunik Vishva Sahitya aur Siddhant, Bhakti Kavya Parampara aur Kabir, and Sambodhit. He has also co-edited eight volumes of the Ramchandra Shukla Rachanavali with Prof. Namvar Singh.
In addition, he has edited Chandrakant Devtale’s interview collection Mere Saakshatkar; three short story selections of Kashinath Singh—Pratinidhi Kahaniyan, Kharonch, and Payal Purohit Tatha Anya Kahaniyan; the selected stories Pratinidhi Kahaniyan by Swayam Prakash; Arun Kamal’s selection 75 Kavitayen; Natya Vyaktitva Mohan Rakesh; and Ashadh Ka Ek Din: Punarmulyankan.
